Legislative Assembly determines to review the economic resources and assets granted to the Police from the Governorship

 Due to the repression recorded in recent days in the city of Santa Cruz, in a session of the Legislative Assembly held on Monday, it was determined to review the economic resources and assets granted to the Bolivian Police from the Governorship. This is due to the violent repression against demonstrators defending Governor Luis Fernando Camacho.

From the Assembly it was reported that in view of the "repressive, violent, criminal, and human rights violations carried out by the National Police in recent days in the department of Santa Cruz, the Legislative Assembly, within its powers to oversee departmental resources and assets, declares," reads the first part of the document and details as follows:

  1. Reject and condemn the relentless repression by the operational arm of the central level of the State against the people of Santa Cruz who are legitimately expressing themselves democratically.
  2. Present complaints and interpellations to the representatives of the Bolivian Police and the Ministry of Government with the aim of presenting a report to the people of Santa Cruz on all their operational acts since December 28, 2022 to date.
  3. Review the continuity of all departmental economic resources and assets that have been granted, delivered, or intended to the Bolivian Police in the department of Santa Cruz and that have been used for repressive purposes against the people of Santa Cruz, moving away from its constitutional role.
  4. Demand respect and guarantees for the fundamental exercise of freedom of expression, thought, protests, peaceful claims against the criminal acts carried out by the repressive agency of the central level of the State.
